Chronixx Addresses Reaction To Comments About Vybz Kartel

Recently aired comments made by Chronixx about Jamaican dancehall artist Vybz Kartel made headlines on blogs in Jamaica.

Speaking to an American reporter from Viceland network on the latest series of Noisey Jamaica, Chronixx gave his opinion on the cause-and-effect of negative media, and in turn, the impact it has on society, and the currently incarcerated dancehall star’s music and freedom. The conscious artist laid most of the blame on the media reporting negatives more than positive stories. “A man will write an article on how bad this generation is all the time, but how many articles do you see about the good?” he asked. “So we have become a very negatively driven people.”

Chronixx shared his thoughts on the popularity of Vybz Kartel’s negative songs and how he believed the negative society potentially shaped his behaviour. “Vybz Kartel himself has done a lot of good things in life,” he states before using the famed dancehall artist as an example of his theory. “So, it’s just like we pull the negative out of each other every time. Like, ‘What do you have in you, good? All right, I want the bad.’ And we just pull it, and we pay people for the bad.”

He then went on to explain how all are interlinked, resulting in a bloodthirsty side of fans who react with great excitement to songs like ‘Kill Dem All and Done‘. “It became so pleasant to the human being, like there is a thing within us that craves chopping up people and beheading people and cut out a man’s insides,” he says frankly. “Like when you see how youths react to a song that says “Go and kill everybody!’ You know, and everybody gets excited.”

Vybz Kartel, along with three others, is currently serving a life sentence for the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams. Some fans of the still immensely popular Vybz Kartel reacted to the inaccurate reports in various online publications. Chronixx took to his Instagram page to address the recent negative reaction.

I will never dignify untrue and twisted publications made by a media who only seek to create headlines which drag artistes and their supporters through the valley of disunity and division. It is all a part of the overall effort to divide our music, divert our creative focus and incarcerate the legends of our music- “to divide and rule is their only plan…I a nuh fool”. We (chronixx, vybz kartel) will Never dignify the statements made by these individuals of no culture…instead I will continue to make good projects as I patiently wait to see the silver lining behind this dark precipitation of ignorant bloggers and so called “gaza” fans.

Now for all the true supporters of Vybz Kartel as a true talent…you have all the right in the world. Put every other elements aside, Vybz Kartel as a student of this music and our culture is an undeniable and exceptional talent who has proven himself to be a fearless creative soul in this earth.
Then…for the ones who are quick to believe and react out of ignorance to the lies of these puppets who have only revealed themselves to be a disgrace to true journalism, may the peace that passeth all overstanding be with you and yours. - Chronixx
